National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Diabetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Our team has composed 5 simple ways to adopt a healthier diet. Learn more below:
Starting your day with a healthy breakfast that includes a lean protein, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables will put you in a
great mood and set the tone for the day. It’s common for people to skip breakfast if they have a hectic morning, but this can lead to unhealthy eating habits later in the day. Breakfast doesn’t have to be a gourmet spread. A parfait with low-fat yogurt, fruit, or whole grain cereal can do the trick.
Healthy snacks can help sustain energy levels between your main meals. By choosing the right combination of foods such as grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and protein, you’ll be able to find the right balance to keep you going throughout the day. Health Line gives us 29 healthy snack options. Find them out here.
Quench your thirst with water instead of drinks with added
sugars. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, especially if you are active, are an older adult, or live/work in hot conditions. By drinking more water, you’ll also be able to curve hunger.
Not only does it look pretty, but fruits and veggies include
essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber to your plate. Most recommend 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables to your daily goal. These foods do not have to be plain and bland. Experiment with different types of such as fresh, frozen, and canned.
Eating right doesn’t have to be a complicated or expensive process. Many think that everything needs to be organic, which can quickly increase your food bill. By shopping around your grocery store, you’ll be sure to find something that works for you.
